My sis, Audrey is just guessing that Lux was born in Sept also. She came to our home on Oct 2 last year, as a little baby and now look how much she has grown. I would say, she has filled our home with lots of fun and laughter. Will share more stories later...

Here's our birthday shot together. All this while, I got the vet to trim Lux's long nails. The vet actually recommended me to get one of the nail cutters for cats will do the job. I could still remember the last trip to the vet, where I got the vet to trim her nails, Lux was really annoyed with the vet hahaha...
The manicure tool, it's a pity they don't have specially just for buns ...

I was feeling very stressed out studying for my exams last week, and decided to take some time off to play with Lux. I got her into a relaxed mode, and that's when the thought of trimming her nails came into my mind cause I noticed she was starting to have the habit of keep biting her nails again (I guess annoyed with the long claws). I checked her nails, the ones at the front paws seems to be quite long. Slowly, I inspected her nails and talked softly to her (not sure whether she understood what I was trying to tell her :P), and trimmed them a little. Surprisingly, she did not struggle and just let me do the job. What a good girl, Lux baby :) I guess she trust mummy to trim her nails now.

What a scare...

It was a nice weekend back at the kampung. As usual, Lux would crawl into her carrier by herself for our trip back. It seems to be a natural thing for her now if her favourite blue cloth is inside there :) This trip, Lux was such a good girl. Just quietly enjoying her ride home, only doing her scratching claw business once throughout the journey unlike previous trips home where she was practically annoyed throughout the journey.

We reached home around 8 pm yesterday night, and the poor thing was quite tired from the trip. Immediately I let her out of her carrier and she hopped back into her cage and started eating the hay vigourously. I guess she must be very hungry. After a few hours I noticed, there was no poo or pee from her, and started to get worried but she was still busy enjoying her hay. I begin to wonder, all the eating and no poo? This doesn't look too good. Before I went to bed around midnight, I checked on her again, finished her hay and I had to put in more hay for her, but still no poo. I was getting very worried, I tried feeling her tummy to see whether it was bloated, cause that's what happened to Max previously (Max and Lux came together to my new home previously). Her tummy seems ok, not bloated at all. I decided to go to bed, but couldn't really sleep because of this. I woke up some time around 3 am to check on her. Any poo? Only 2!! Then I stroked her, and she just enjoyed the company and wanted to play. I was thinking to myself, are you ok or not?

Went back to sleep, and woke up around 6+ am, this time I heard some poo sound from the cage, and I felt relieved. I let her out for her usual morning run, and she was so happy running around and that was really a relief. Silly me, getting all worked out over this. Here's Lux, (these pictures were taken about 2 hours ago) feeling happy and relaxed, and posing for me :)
Feeling so lazy after dinner

Mummy, am I pretty or am I naughty? ;)

Some recent poses, starring Lux the bun

Here are a few recent photos taken of Lux in different poses which I thought I would like to share just for general viewing. Lux baby, that goes to show how lack of knowledge your mummy is in bringing you up :). I first heard the term "molting" from my friend Mei Leng when I told her about Lux shedding lots of fur. She recommended me the furminator, but this product is not found in Malaysia. I remembered we took Lux back to the kampung during CNY and my mum was complaining so much fur flying all over the place. Sorry mum, Lux just couldn't help it :P

This time round, I decided to make an effort to be more prepared for the molting season. I asked my friend Tim, what should I use and he suggested a slicker brush. Uh, I was like, what is a slicker brush ah?, hahaha another terminology that baffled me. Haha, how embarrassing, I never even groom Lux baby to be honest. And I dunno how do you actually groom your bun, cause all this while, I thought Lux baby's fur was nice looking, how silly, LOL. I went to Pet Lover at Sunway Pyramid last Sunday and decided to invest in a slicker brush. Here you go, that's how it looks like.

I bought the brush and went home. Was so eager to start my grooming or brushing session with Lux. It was still bright in the afternoon, say around 3pm+ and Lux was in her usual sleepy mode at that time. I went to her with the brush and started brushing her. Oh dear, she was mad at me. In her half awake look, she thumped her foot in protest, like saying, "Mum, do you mind, it's my nap time now!! Stop messing my fur". I was like "oops, sorry baby, got you at the wrong time".

I delayed my attempt till evening after her meals and started working on her with the brush. This time she just lied quietly and let me do the job. Got lots of fur brushed out. Been doing this for a few days, to prevent her from eating too much of her own fur which can be fatal. Here's her look after lots of brushing. Looks messy still. Anyway, you'll have nice new fur when all this is over :)
Do I look better now or what?? As mentioned by the COC, Pava it was supposed to be A "simple" straight forward hunt without frills and games just fun and mid challenges. The word "simple" there tends to be very misleading. Our team were struggling throughout the hunt. Overall, all route questions were answered by either one team or another. Only one treasure question was unanswered. It was a good hunt. Thanks Pava :)

We were rather dejected after the hunt due to this hunt's difficulty and the time constraint. There was no penalty window provided, therefore once you missed the stipulated submission time, you are deemed disqualified. The results were unexpected. 2 Sneakies + 2 Innocents won again, out of our expectation, really unbelievable for us :)

The unsolved treasure

T: Please bring in this edible item which describes "Senior Blooms"
A: Ricola Elderflowers

Honestly speaking, I haven't even seen this product myself. So I decided to go to Giant for dinner just now, spotted this treasure immediately and decided to buy it, just for the fun of it. But my guess is, this product must be quite old (due to the expiry date for this product is July 2010). According to another team, they knew about this product but it was nowhere to be found.

My CNY gift from Daddy - a handmade American Bowie

Daddy has been making knives as a hobby for quite some time now. So how does that equate to keeping clean... hehehe...
Cleaning my right foot

Do I look cute??

Cleaning my left foot now...

Bun with an attitude

Looking at this photo, you would probably think, awww... what an adorable bunny. Well, Lux is our darling there's no doubt on that. She never fails to "entertain" us with her various characters.

Let's start with last Friday night...I noticed there was some mosquitoes outside, and not wanting Lux to be bitten, I took her in to sleep with me for the night. Both of us went to bed around 1+ am, lights off. So far so good... In the middle of the night, I felt kinda cold and decided to lower the speed of the fan. And guess what, once the fan was down, Lux started thumping her foot in protest. Oh no, not again, making noises, I decided to ignore her for a while, but there was still sound of protest from this little fella. So reluctantly, I had to wake up again to increase the speed of the fan. After that, all was well until morning.

It was already 7+ am in the morning, and Lux was making noises in a way to wake me up and waiting for food. Since it was Saturday morning, I tried to ignore her and continued sleeping till 8+. Woke up went to look at her, she was excited to see me, but once I opened the cage door, she showed me her angry face and thumped her foot once. It's like indirectly saying, "Wake up so late??, hungry la". I pat her gently on the head and she was ok. What a moody little fella. Gave her breakfast and she was happy again :)

Dead-Bunny Flop

I just learnt this new term a few weeks back from my friend Mei Leng who is also a bunny lover. After getting the explanation from Mei Leng, I was relief that it means my Lux bun is very relaxed :) Thanks Mei Leng for educating me more on buns.

It was kind of hard to get these snaps as I tried very hard to tip toe out to take these photos. The first few attempts ended up waking up Lux as I was trying to adjust the lens to a suitable angle which resulted in me banging the lens on the cage… how clumsy :)

This is what they call the dead-bunny flop which means that your bunny is very relaxed and comfortable in its own cage.

Third week with Lux

I can still remember, when Lux was much smaller, she had the habit of sitting in the bowl to eat or sleep, and at the same time, poo and pee on her own food. After the nice dinner on Good Friday, we decided to try another recipe the following day. This recipe is quite easy to follow, only that you have to be more generous with the corn flour to get a nicer looking end results :) Based on the 1st recipe attempt on the pork ribs where we practically emptied the whole bottle of corn flour, I was more cautious this time on the usage of flour to prevent wastage.

Ingredients
500g fresh cuttlefish, cut into rings (here we got 2 large cuttlefish from Jusco)
500 ml oil for deep-frying
300g corn flour (that's a lot, about 1 box of corn flour, nah, i used much less than that)

To marinade - 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1 egg white, 1 tbsp curry powder, a dahs of 5 spice powder and 1 tbsp plain flour

Steps:
1. Marinade the cuttle fish with the marinade ingredients. Recipe says 3o minutes, but I had it for about 2 hours and left it in the fridge.
2. Coat with corn flour (this is the part you have to be more generous on the corn flour) and deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.
3. Dish up.

End results...

Next 2 recipes

3 weeks of inactivity in the blog. Had been busy meeting up with the contractor - planning on the house renovation, doing some survey on the stuff we will need to get for the new home and also treasure hunting.

CH and I tried out these 2 recipes about 2 weeks back. It was Good Friday, CH had the day off and he decided to try out the Prawn Fritters recipe. All of us came home. We had a nice lunch on Sunday as Kim and KZ had to leave for Penang in the afternoon. We had lunch at Man Chong to celebrate dad's birthday and at the same time to try out the food there prior to Kim's wedding lunch in September.

The food was quite good. We had pork leg, mixed vege with dumpling, nestum prawn and steamed silver pomfret. After that, we had cake at home. Specially baked by Kim, nice chocolate cake. Hey Kim, your cake is 1st class quality, yum love it, had some again for breakfast this morning. We'll start looking out for your Kenwood machine. Sorry no photos to show for now as i left my camera back in TI, how forgetful. Will only be able to post some of the photos when I go back again next month. We took quite a number of funny ones, especially posing with the wine God Bro bought for dad's birthday :)

Got myself a new knife from dad, it looks like those knives used by the pork seller in the market. It would be good to remove the fatty parts of the meat. And God Bro, I brought back your knife as well, it's a nice looking knive with a sheath. Would need to meet up with you one of these day. Dad got his new supply of timber from Uncle Wai yesterday night and was again busy at his workshop. All those timber making him excited. hahaha...

We left TI this morning and it's back to work tomorrow...

Our first attempt

It has been really a long time since I wrote anything here. Almost a year. Had been too tight up with work for the past 10 months with the same old project. This project is almost at its end stage but would still need at least 1-2 months before we can really wrap it up. Anyway, at the end of the day, it all depends on the client whether they are satisfied with what they are getting.

Today both CH and I decided to try something from the recipe book which we had purchased quite some time back, but didn't really had the time to experiment on any of it. We had Tony Roma's beef ribs last weekend to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary together. And that gave me an idea maybe we should try cooking pork ribs this Sunday ourselves. We went through the list of ingredients required, headed for Carrefour to get the stuff that were required.

Came home, had lunch and started my task in seasoning the ribs. The following were the ingredients for marinating:
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sesame oil (didn't include that, the one we had, had expired)
2 tbsp plain flour (didn't have this)
1 tbsp custard powder (didn't have this)
1 tsp bicarbonate soda
200 ml water
200g corn flour, add in sauce

We lacked 3 ingredients and substituted it with black pepper and more corn flour. Funny, being amateurs, we didn't have any measuring equipment to measure 200ml of water and 200g of corn flour. So it was all just a wild guess on how much to put in. With all these I started the marinating process as CH was watching. Kept telling me, we added in too much water and needed to put in more corn flour. We practically emptied the whole bottle of corn flour we had and in the end, the marinating sauce looks thick :) We left it in the fridge until it was time to cook in the evening.

Time to cook, I started preparing the sauce. The following were the ingredients for the sauce:
2 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tbsp chilli sauce
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp curry powder
1/2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp light soya sauce
3 tbsp water

CH filled the pan with oil and started the fire. Took out the ribs and found that it was covered in thick flour. We were like complaining, added too much corn flour?? Oh dear, is this going to work out? Put in the ribs into the hot oil and deep-fry until it was golden brown. Took it out, and fried the sauce that was prepared and added in the ribs. The following is the end results :)

Makan time - the moment of truth :) All of us had our first bite, and hmm... it tasted quite good. Even my sis, who is a picky eater said it tasted nice. CH was pretty happy on our first attempt. Next attempt, crabs?? But where to get fresh good crabs....

Speed typing

How fast is your typing? GO GO GO

The long awaited DHL Hunt 2007 finally came. This time it was called the East Coast Treasure Hunt, from Cyberjaya to Cherating. This hunt was organized by Malaysia Hunt Club (COC: Baskaran) Registration was open in November. We had no idea we were the first team to register. So therefore we were Team No. 1 (GO x 3). Briefing and collection of goody bags was on Friday evening. Due to the lack of time to prepare for this hunt, wrong T-shirt sizes were distributed to most of the teams. Funny, they considered CH as female, giving him a baby-T shirt, which was too small. Thanks to Sofia, she managed to get a normal sized T-shirt for him. Briefing time, Sofia, Lee Quan and me were already excited for the next day. We were all ears and jotted down all his sample questions and answers hoping to get some "tips" for hunt day.
Hunt day, CH and I went to fetch Lee Quan at her place and headed to the office. Sure enough, we were late and were the last few cars to arrive. COC gave the final briefing and a group photo session and we were ready for flagged off. Chuan Yew was there to flag all the cars. When it was our turn, he criticised our team saying, you are team no. 1 but you are late, then CH sheepishly replied, ya we were a bit late today, hahaha... After flagging off, we stopped a while to solve the puzzle and to look through the route and treasure questions. We were practically the last car to leave the area.

Heading for Damansara Utama via LDP, we tried to start cracking the treasure questions (4 of them). I guess all of us were still not warmed-up. At that time we only managed to crack treasure 1 and 3 partially, the Cintan mi goreng and Lot100 Mango. We decided to make our first stop at Tesco Puchong to look for treasures but were disappointed as we did not manage to get anything out from there. At that time we were getting a bit worried, as we did not want to leave Klang Valley without securing all the treasures.

We arrived DU , the area looks familiar, I was there for Sun Hunt. The first question was pretty straight forward
Q: First question for you to try,
If there is cure for everybody, then we can go in to buy
A: ALLin Pharmacy

We sort of breeze through the first 13 Questions in Klang Valley, after that we decided we had to seriously get the treasures or else we are in deep trouble. We went to a few 7 Eleven, searching for Lot100 Mango only to find the gummy and sweet type. Nothing of like a hose or cylinder as mentioned in the question. We decided to try our luck again in 7 Eleven, both Lee Quan and I will run out of the car to go get treasures. And this time she spotted the Lot100 Mango tube which matches with the treasure question description. She was excited when she saw it, but had to hold her excitement as there were other teams in the 7 Eleven as well, both of us waited patiently until they left, bought the treasure and ran back to the car happily. This boosted our team's confidence a bit. Still no sign of the Cintan mi goreng 80g.

Next destination, Karak. While driving Lee Quan and I were trying to crack treasure 2 and 4. First line of treasure 2 goes like this:
Find the nyonya who will not have questions,
we were trying to find another name for nyonya then out of the blue the word nona came out, then sure enough it did match the description, nyonya without questions is without the y y = nona.
Next line was: Totally mixed and doubled within the mission

nona = nano, doubled = nano nano.
Following line: Look for the celebrity crop, as it's our passion
celebrity = star
crop = fruit
Star Fruit flavor.

After buying the Nano Nano Star Fruit, both Lee Quan and I ran back to the car, while CH and Sofia were trying to crack treasure 4. The first line goes something like that, "Perhaps a flipping male together for the item, as I hear it better". CH was wondering male = man, flipping = toss, so sounds like mentos. Yes it's mentos. Mentos variant with less than 10 in net. Then both of us ran back in to the Petronas station to look for Mentos, we found the Mentos Power Gum, net 9g. Secured 3 treasures and leaving Klang Valley. We are still wondering, where to get the Cintan Mi Goreng 80g?? The team decided, it's just going to be a waste of time to continue stopping at petrol kiosk or 7 eleven as this item cannot be found there. We tried to be positive, hoping we will find it at our next stop, Karak.

We continued with the hunt in Karak, there were a few shops in Karak, this time, Lee Quan and I got down from the car and decided to split in finding our last treasure. I went into this dingy looking shop to look for the last treasure. I was so happy, at last we found the last treasure that has costs us so much time. I double checked the label to ensure it was 80g. Quickly paid for the item and ran back to the car. The team was delighted we had secured all treasures as each treasure carried a weightage of 6 points compared to the route questions which only carries 2 points.

Cintan Mi Goreng Ala Indonesia 80g

By then, weather began to change and through out the journey approaching cherating was mostly rain. We were quite fortunate in a sense, that when it was time to solve route questions, there is no rain or just slight drizzle. Heavy rain and some traffic did slow us down after reaching Kuantan. Chong was constantly keeping a close watch over time not wanting us to be behind time. The journey from Kuantan to Cherating was quite a funny one. We were all constantly looking at the time and calculating the remaining mileage left to cover. There were quite a number of lorries which has slowing us down. There was this lorry, carrying sawn timber and moving rather slow. Chong was having difficulty overtaking this lorry because the road was narrow and there was on coming cars. Then at one stretch, there was this herd of cows resting by the road side, and suddenly 2 of them started fighting. Seeing this, the lorry ahead of us slowed down and this gave us the opportunity to overtake it. Ah... see even the cows had helped us in our journey as we laughed in the car. We arrived at the finish point 5 minutes before the 9 hours duration. Sofia our navigator ran down to submit the answer sheets and treasures.

Parked the car and checked in. The organizers made a mistake by labelling Chong as a female and assigned him to share a room with Lee Quan. How funny. That must be the reason why, during briefing day, he was given the female sized T-shirt. Chong and I had a rest, it was indeed a very long journey, but filled with fun, excitement and laughter.

Dinner was ready at 8 pm, but the food was lousy. They went through the Answer presentation. We made 3 mistakes, but then I was confused on the last question, couldn't really remember whether I wrote the answer in full. So I told the team, I think i did not write it in full, so we made 4 mistakes. I was feeling awfully guilty at that time while they were announcing the winners starting from 25th position. We knew this hunt would be very competitive with 2 teams from the recent Sun Hunt open category finishing at 4th and 5th placing respectively. At last it was the top two positions. The COC mentioned that one team scored 92 points and the another team scored 94 points. We kept thinking we scored 92 points but in actual fact it was 94 points. When the results were announced we went up the stage but I was wondering did we finish 1st or 2nd. I looked at the enveloped that was handed to me, it was blank in the front, then I looked behind, it was indeed 1st. Ah... I really couldn't believe this. We were all so happy and stunned at the same time. Thank you team, for a job well done. It was all good team work.

Sun Motor Hunt 2007

What an eventful Saturday, to tell you the truth, I only managed to find enough energy today to pen my experience for this hunt. I was really excited and looking forward to this hunt, so called the mother of all hunts. And am so lucky I managed to find a team as early as August. You must be thinking I am so kiasu hehehe... But one person I would like to thank for helping me get a team is Michael Pang. Thanks Mike for helping me out in the Solo Hunter program. Without you, I would not have found Chew, Gim Lee, and Siow Lyn.

Well, I decided to take half day off to attend the briefing. My first sun hunt, I decided not to miss it. Briefing starts at 6 pm. And the earliest time I can leave office is 5.30 pm. I know I can't make it on time because of the distance from the Science Centre. Actually that half day, really had something to do with one of the treasures during the Sun Hunt. As I was driving home and passing by Puchong, I decided to have my lunch at the food court at Puteri Mart. While waiting for my food I noticed, someone drinking the Wong Lo Kat drink :)

Hunt day, we decided to meet up at Lyn's place and off we went to the Science Centre. When we arrived there, there was a long queue of cars ahead of us, our team was like nearly the last few cars to arrive. We flagged off at 8.04 am, and headed for Uptown Damansara and Damansara Jaya (Atria area) for Leg 1. Leg 1 was rather interesting, no tulips at all. We had to identify which sector we were based on the picture clues given. There were 8 sectors in Uptown but only 6 sectors are used in the hunt. The first 11 questions were at Uptown. We spent quite a lot of time, still trying to answer all the questions. By 10 am, we had to listen to mix fm for the first treasure clues. We felt that the DJ read the question like a bullet train. We could hardly grasps what he was reading and it was done. So we had to watch out for the 2nd and 3rd time when it comes on air again. This time we managed to grap what was being read and worked on trying to solve the treasure. By 10.30 am, we decided we have to move on to Damansara Jaya for the remaining 4 questions for Leg 1 as we were running late on time. At Damansara Jaya, we went through the sectors quickly and headed for the Leg 1 submission at the McDonald's drive through at Sunway. While heading there, we started looking at the treasure questions, as we did not have time to look at it before that.

Submitted Leg 1 around 11 am. Took our lunch package and try to figure out what treasures to buy. With all this rush, it was hard to think properly. It was like your brain was in a mess :)). I decided to head for the Caltex station nearby to get some ideas what to buy. Didn't really help either. So headed for Leg2's first destination, Pusat Bandar Puchong and Bandar Puteri. While on the way there, we managed to crack some of the treasures and decided to start buying them at Puchong. At that time, we only figured out the Wong Lo Kat and the Pilot G-2-07 pen. The other treasure was either the Kit Kat or Timeout, and Tong Garden but dunno which variant to purchase. We finished the Puchong area around 12.30, with 2 hours to finish time (without penalty). Next destination PJU, the journey there was rather unpleasant as we were caught in a bad jam. It took us more than an hour to reach the destination. After that the last destination was Wangsa Maju area near the check-in point, Royal Selangor Visitor Centre. When we arrived Wangsa Maju, our time was eating into the penalty time. We decided to take the gamble 5 more route questions in trade of 6 penalty points. We were very fortunate as Wangsa Maju was Chew and Gim Lee's territory. Thanks to Gim Lee for her superb navigation skills, we managed to bypass some traffic and solved all 5 questions. Credit should also be given to Chew who drove like Lewis Hamilton to the check-in point. And also Lyn for running to the finishing line like we were in the Amazing Race :)). We checked in at 3.03 pm, 1 minute before disqualification. That was a close shave. It was stressful for the last 5 questions but we made it. It was all worth the effort.

We received 6 penalty points, and finished at 25th position. I really had a good time and was so happy we made the cut for the top 50. It was indeed a wonderful experience, my first Sun Hunt.

What is Memory Leak?

I have been assigned this task to create a new API for an application to access to grab data from a global repository. Actually there is nothing special about this API, it was just a simplified version of the existing API the application was using, just that too much unnecessary data was returned which had an impact on its performance.

After making the changes and doing the benchmarking there was a performance improvement of more than 100%. Sounds good eh... Then comes the endurance part, where the API is used constantly with a stable load for a period of few days and monitoring the memory utilization during this time. Monitoring work begins, first few hours looks good, no increase in memory usage but after that the memory increased gradually after a day. So I presented this findings to my colleague which was managing this "product". She said a memory leak occured for this new API. I was thinking to myself, how could this be, this is an existing piece of code modified to be better and there's nothing new about it. If this is a problem, then the current one running in production is also in trouble. I didn't want to argue, so I checked my piece of work properly to see whether I left out anything. It looks ok, nothing missing. She mentioned that the production one is running fine and was tested to be OK previously. So we decided to load the old API to test, the same results were returned.

Uh... so now what is the problem, she decided to consult the experts in performance tests, it seems like the garbage collection was not efficient enough to perform it's job on time. Therefore causing memory not in used, not released back to the system. After doing forced garbage collection, the memory utilization was back to normal :) Well, I am happy, I learnt something new on Memory management for software applications. It was worth all the trouble and difficulty doing this test.

Definition of Memory Leak, this is a snippet from Wikipedia:
"In computer science, a memory leak is a particular kind of unintentional memory consumption by a computer program where the program fails to release memory when no longer needed. This condition is normally the result of a bug in a program that prevents it from freeing up memory that it no longer needs.

The term is meant as a humorous misnomer, since memory is not physically lost from the computer. Rather, memory is allocated to a program, and that program subsequently loses the ability to access it due to program logic flaws.

As is noted below, a memory leak has similar symptoms to a number of other problems, and generally can only be diagnosed by a programmer with access to the program source code; however many people are quick to describe any unwanted increase in memory usage as a memory leak, even if this is not strictly accurate."

Assunta Alumni Summer Hunt 2007

We girls were excited after no hunt activity for a month. We were all raring to go. This time it was the Assunta Alumni Summer Hunt 2007. As for me, things had not been good since Saturday :(. I had a fall at the car workshop while servicing CH's car. Had to get his odometer fixed for the company's hunt in December. I sort of hurt my ankle. Then at night, I was having a bout of migraine attack. Grrr...didn't sleep well at all. Woke up at 5.40 am. Had a light breakfast and I was off to Sofia's place to lead her to our meeting point. We reached SMK Assunta a little bit past 7. The girls had some light breakfast and at 8.19 am, we flagged off. Things seemed to go wrong after we flagged off. No thanks to me, being the navigator, we lost our way after driving for a few kilometres. How embarassing and I was panicking. We decided to back track, and thanks to Lee Quan, she said she would take over the navigation while I be the passenger. We were back on track :) I apologized to the team for letting them down.

The rest of the journey was cracking our head and straining to look at all the signboards. There were 35 route questions - 30 normal questions and 5 bold question, and 4 treasures. The second last question was the hardest. It goes like this:
Q: Upright cover perhaps
A: Purple Star Group

When we reached that sector, there were already a lot of hunters there trying to crack this Q. As for us, still green in hunts, we got it wrong. hahaha... We just gave a tembak and drove back to the finishing point.

After submitting the answer sheets and treasures, we had to do a challenge. The challenge was counting grapes. I was like huh... we had to guess the number of grapes displayed, I don't know how many points we got for that challenge. There were 177 grapes. We only guessed it as 110. So was quite way off from the actual figure.

We had lunch and had to wait about 2 hours before the Q & A session. It was a tiring wait despite TOS having some games, eating the apples to kill off time. When the results were announced, we did not finish in the top 15, so no prize to bring home. The only consolation was winning RM 120 petrol voucher from BH Petrol for the lucky draw.

It was indeed a nice hunt and I felt that the team have improved from the previous hunt. Next stop, Sun Hunt on Nov 3.

How time flies

It's about a year since I tendered by resignation to leave APIS and rejoined in July this year. What a turbulent year it has been. It all started with me feeling bored as there was no projects for more than a year. The thought of venturing out and trying new stuff drove me to look for a new job. The job just came quite fast. I still dunno why I took all the trouble to secure this job. It was not that easy actually. First, I had to go through an interview followed by an exam to develop a sample application. And I passed and was offered the job immediately. Actually I still think I did a rash decision to take up that position. The package was rather attractive. Because of that, I may have lost my bearing. Moreover, the head hunter was also rather impatient, she wanted the deal fast, only gave me 2 days to decide whether to take up the offer or not. I felt a bit "cheated" from this aspect. So off to KLCC. It was a real nightmare for me. I had to wake up so early in the morning and leave home by 7 am. A big difference from the usual time I need to wake up for work. Driving to the LRT also takes around 40 minutes if the traffic is ok. The next big challenge was fighting for a place in the LRT. It is really packed early in the morning. I felt like I was going for war. By the time I reach the office, I am already a bit worn out. Going home proofs to be another challenge. The LRT at KLCC is packed again and the drive back from the LRT station to home is jam jam jam all the way. All in all, so much precious time is spent on travelling back and forth to work. After a few days there, I began to ponder, is this what I want?? After working there for about 2 weeks, I decided enough was enough and I left without a job :(

The next few months proved to be some challenge looking for another job. I did get a few offers, but this time, I was really cautious on what I am going to get myself into. After about 5 months being a housewife, I took up the offer from a local vendor based company. I was based at Putrajaya, working on a government project at the PM's department. Working there was another big nightmare. Don't want to elaborate too much on that.

My rescue came, when my ex-boss from APIS asked me whether I'll be interested to come back. Without hesitation, I took the offer to leave the current hell hole I was in.

Actually looking back the time when I was a temporary housewife, it didn't seem so bad. Doing all the housework, getting afternoon naps, monitoring stocks and occasionally cook. But the bad part is, you have less social life and can't simply spend money as you wish compared to when you are working.

Timeout Challenge VII

Going for my first TOS motor hunt. I was feeling excited even before the hunt. My team mates were feeling the same too. One of them even thought the hunt was a week earlier. Another team member which had to work on night shift took half day off, to get some sleep before heading off to Malacca. That goes to show how keen we are on treasure hunting.

The day before was briefing day. Lee Quan and I were nearly the last team to arrive for the briefing. We were caught in such a bad jam it took us nearly 1.5 hours to reach the National Science Centre.

Hunt day, flag off was at the Regalia Business Centre car park. We were caught by surprise there were 2 legs for this hunt. Leg 1, walk hunt just a short one with 5 questions. We managed to finish that fast and headed off for the Sungai Besi highway to start Leg 2. When we arrived there, we sort of got confused with the roads and was practically lost even before Leg 2 was started. We decided to call TOS to ask for directions and actually we were just beside the answer for Q1. It was really funny, asking TOS we are now at Country Heights, are we at the right place. The guy on the other side, was like uh uh ... dun really know how to answer us as it was the answer for Q1. After we figured out that was answer for Q1 we burst out in laughter and continued our journey. It was quite smooth sailing until the part where the questions were positioned at the wrong tulip. Being novices, we hard some problem and did not know how to answer and decided to skip it and move on without realizing the answers were actually at the next tulip.

We reached the finishing point without any penalty. Results were announced but we did not win anything. I am not too disappointed as we are all still new and took this as a learning opportunity and to have fun at the same time. Our next stop will be the Assunta Hunt also by TOS on Oct 28.

What a weekend...

Last weekend was really a hectic, fun-filled and exciting one. 2 hunts on 1 weekend. I thought I could cope with that since I am not really cut for that yet. But by Sunday night, I was totally KOed. Trying to catch up with the Budget 2008 news in the papers, I practically slept with the newspaper that night hahaha...

Let's start with Saturday, Bangsar walk hunt. My sis, Kim from Penang was supposed to join us for this hunt. But unfortunately she arrived after the hunt was over. Her train from Penang was supposed to take off at 10 pm on Friday night but it was delayed due to flood at some parts of the tracks. So her journey to KL took around 12 hours. So our team was left with 3 persons and surprisingly we finished second. Couldn't believe it but was really happy. After the Q & A and results announcement. I rushed back to catch some rest before heading to Cyberjaya for the Cyberjaya Merdeka Hunt (Novice) hunt briefing.

Together with my sis, we went to pick up one of my team mates on the way at Pusat Bandar Puchong and I kept missing the turn to get to her place. Instead after missing 2 turns, I decided to use the route towards the Giant at Bandar Puteri. At last, I managed to find her place and we were on our way to Kelab Tasik Cyberjaya for the briefing. The other team mate was still sleeping as she was on night shift the day before, so trying to catch up with some sleep before the Sunday's hunt.

As we were still new, I was the driver, my sis hunting for the second time and my team mate was the navigator for the first time, we were trying to help each other how to read the tulips correctly. After sorting out our doubts on tulip reading we decided to search for the other team mate's place so that we would not have to figure out how to get there on hunt day.

Hunt day, had to wake up so early. This is worst than going to work in the morning hahaha... The whole team was feeling rather sleepy before flag off. But the minute the Questions and Tulips were distributed, all of us were wide awake and ready to go. All of us were so excited trying looking at the signboard and reading out the signboards aloud. It was a pleasant atmosphere in the car where we practically were having fun and laughing trying to help each other. I felt our team had very good team work, everyone tried to help whenever they can and we try to minimized the number of times we need to stop and get down from the car to save time. We finished a surprising 11th position despite making so many errors.

Second Honeymoon in Bali

Hi, I am back after a long lay off. Been so busy with work at my previous job. Working day and night. Don't even have time for my own. After working there nearly 3 months, I decided to throw in the letter after getting an offer from my previous work place, APIS.

CH and I decided to go to Bali, to celebrate our 1st Anniversary. It was indeed a nice holiday to destress and recharge the badly worn out batteries. Again, we took the Air Asia package which I would say was reasonable. We were there for 4d3n, stayed at Nusa Dua. Its a quiet and peaceful place where you can sleep by the seaside under the tree with the strong wind blowing on your face. How rejuvenating :) The beaches in Nusa Dua are much nicer and cleaner. Unlike the beach in Kuta, so crowded and not convenient to lie and rest by the seaside.

So here I am back in APIS, sitting at my old place and doing the same task I have been doing for the past 4-5 years. I would say it's kinda boring but it's much better than my previous place. So can't complain much. Just bear with it.

First trip to Langkawi

We nearly didn't make it for this trip. This trip was arranged about 6 months back when Air Asia had the RM0.99 per ticket promotion. At that time, I decided to book 4 tickets - my parents, CH and me.

On the eve before we left, Dad called to say he was not well. He was having some stomach problem and seems to be passing blood. This really made me very worried. I told him, if you can't go, just forget it we can go another time. Mum pestered him to see a doctor. He went, and doctor gave him the green light to go with some medication. Orite!!

The trip from LCCT to Langkawi was a pleasant one. Boarding on the Airbus 320 (from the pic), it was new, clean and you can feel the plane's got power. We arrived Langkawi and rented a car. Went for lunch and did some shopping before checking in to the hotel. Liquor and cigarettes are really cheap. But, too bad, I don't really like to drink. Instead, I attacked the chocolates . I love the Sports Ritter brand. Too bad they did not have Hanuta, that would have been better.

We were there for 3d2n, not much of a time too. It was more of 2d2n. We did not engage in any water activity because of Dad's condition, as he was on medication. Instead we just went to the Underwater World which was I would say well maintained and impressive. From the outside it looks rather small, but when inside it seems much bigger. Besides that, we just took the car and went sightseeing round the island at our own pace. You know, the old folks can't take the rushing here and there. hehehe...

Anyway, I would love to go back there again to visit other places like the Pulau Payar Marine Park. It's such a peaceful place, the cars there don't drive like crazy drivers in the city. Dad is itching to go fishing there. There are lots of fishing spots as well. Lots of haruan according to an owner of a fishing tackle shop. We even spotted one kopitiam selling sang yee pau (ikan haruan pau). Too bad we didn't have the time to taste one of those.

Another unsolved treasure question

I have another treasure question which I am still trying to solve. It was indeed a good experience for the team as all of us were first timers in an open hunt. As beginners we found the questions rather challenging and mind boggling. It’s hard to think out of the box if you would just read the questions directly without deciphering the keywords given in the questions. I would say we fared not too bad, managed to get more than half the questions right.

After this hunt, I am looking forward to more hunts to gain more experience. I know it won’t be easy and it would take quite some time before I am at least half as good as the regular hunters.

As I was looking at some questions, handed over to me by a friend who used to hunt, I came across this treasure question. Still trying to figure out what is the treasure. The question goes like this

First recall that Parisian hotel of Di and Dodi’s where,
Several paparazzi engulfed round initially there,
The couple’s solution was to leave, which resulted in tragedy,
But this solution you bring back may lead you to victory.

Greatly appreciate if any expert and experience hunters out there can help me to decipher this treasure.

Badminton Malaysian Open 2007

It was a nice weekend, going for the Badminton Malaysian Open finals match on Sunday at the KLBA in Cheras. It was my first experience watching "LIVE" games. The atmosphere is totally different compared to watching it from your TV set at home. The whole stadium comes alive with the spectators and supporters cheering and giving the players the moral support they need.

Thanks William, for getting the tickets for us. Will be looking forward for the next meeting in August for the World Championship in Bukit Jalil stadium :)
